Chloe Taylor and Nicky Taylor are sisters.
Fourteen years back, Chloe helped her brother-in-law, Adam Macintosh (husband of Nicky) gain full custody of his two-year-old son, Ethan. Chloe believes Nicky is not a good mom and a good wife.
Fast forward four years, Chloe married Adam and became Ethan’s stepmother. But she treats him as her son.
Now, Nicky lives alone in Ohio, selling jewelry on Etsy. And 41-year-old Chloe lives with 47-year-old Adam and 16-year-old Ethan in luxurious New York City, working as editor-in-chief of Eve magazine.
When someone kills Adam in the family’s vacation home, Chloe’s biggest fear is that the court will grant Nicky guardianship of Ethan.
But then the police arrest Ethan for the murder of Adam. This compels the estranged siblings to work together to solve Adam’s murder and exonerate their son.

Review:
This is a fast-paced, well written, interesting read.
Alafair Burke starts the story with a picture-perfect family. But as the story flows across, we see an entirely different picture.
A thriller around complex lives between sisters as wife and ex, is a new arena.
The story's twists and the secrets that get revealed are enjoyable.
On the negative side, we could not get ourselves to like either of the sisters, which is a big let down.
While the fast pace is a plus, it is also sort of a negative because we should have a good memory to remember things.
Overall, a good whodunit mystery!
