Chillzee Recipes - Easy shrimp/prawn gravy (Easy iral thokku/kuzhambu) - Nanthini
Ingredients
Prawn - 500 grams
Tomato - 1
Onion - 2 big sized
Chilly Powder - 1 spoon (add more if you like it hot!)
Curry leaves - as needed
Oil - 1 or 2 teaspoon
Mustard seeds - little
Salt - as needed
Procedure
- Wash the Prawns well and keep it aside.
- Cut onion and tomato into small pieces
- Onion is the special ingredient in this recipe. Quantity of onion should be more than prawn. Keep this in mind when you pick up onion
- Heat oil in a kadai.
- When oil becomes hot, add mustard seeds and let it splutter.
- Add curry leaves and then onion pieces.
- Saute till onion turns color.
- Now add the tomato pieces.
- Also add the Chilly powder and turmeric powder
- Let it cook for few minutes. Tomato should get cooked well and become a fine paste for a tasty dish. So please be patient and let it get cooked!
- Now add shrimp, quarter cup water and salt (If you want to make it as a gravy, you can add more water)
- Mix well and let it boil for few minutes. Prawn gets cooked fast, so keep checking it!
- Once prawns get cooked, reduce flame and simmer for few minutes.
- If required add more water (for gravy). But the dish tastes good with less water.
- If you like, you can also mix this with rice and make it as a shrimp rice
* This is a an easy to cook but very tasty dish that I learned from my sister. My family members prefer some non-veg dish daily and some days it happens that I don't have enough time to cook N.V. In that situation, this is my savior recipe. It takes less time and is delicious too.
If you get a chance try it and let me know how it came out.
