Chillzee Special Featured - Ajitha - Akshaya designers

In this edition of Featured section, we are going to feature Smt.Ajitha the owner of Akshaya Designers.

Ajitha teaches sewing / stitching and soft toy making in her free time.

She is a specialist in designer blouses, churidars, Aari, Zardosi, chumki works, Hand embroidery and Soft toys.

In addition to her regular classes she also offers home classes by visiting student's home twice in a week.

Here's a gist of our interview with her.

Vindhya : Good morning madam. Thanks for participating in the Chillzee featured section.

Ajitha : Good morning and pleasure is mine.

Vindhya : Tell us about you.

Ajitha : I am a Physics graduate, with diploma in HR. I worked as HR Executive for almost 10 years. I had to quit my job 10 years back to take care of my family.

Vindhya : So how did you start with fashion designing?

Ajitha : Stitching is something that fascinates me a lot.  Even during my school days I love the sewing class. I joined a regular sewing class when I was 15 and from then it has been part and parcel of my life.

Vindhya : Why did you have this special interest in sewing?

Ajitha : Instead of pinpointing a reason as such, I would say, everyone should learn some art / craft at a younger age . As they say in Tamil,

கைத்தொழில் ஒன்றை கற்றுக் கொள் கவலை உனக்கில்லை ஒற்றுக்கொள்!

The pleasure of watching your kids and family wearing the dresses you designed and stitched is immense. It's like you are being brahma and creating something new daily.

Vindhya : That's interesting madam. So tell us about your classes. How long are you conducting these classes?

Ajitha : I have been conducting them for past eight plus years. I have taught hundreds of students. My old students are present all around the globe. I usually develop a nice friendly relationship with most of my students and hence even after many years they keep in touch with me wherever they are.

Vindhya : I can understand it. Yes, you are very friendly.

Ajitha : Thank you [ smiles ].

Vindhya : You told us that you are a science graduate. Did you study any specialized course in sewing or fashion?

Ajitha : Yes I am certified Fashion designer. As I mentioned I started sewing and toy making as a hobby but it got extended into a much more than that. So I decided to make myself skilled and certified to teach my students.

Vindhya : That's excellent! I have seen the samples in the photos. They are cool. You stitched those?

Ajitha : Yes, they are. They are the only pictures I could find now. I have many more samples but need to wait for my photographer (my son) to return from school to picture them.

Vindhya : Even these pictures look cool! Thanks for sharing. So in general how many days will it take for a normal student to learn some basic stitching say for example blouse or churidar?

Ajitha : It depends but generally you can learn the basics of blouse in two days and churidar in three days

Vindhya : Wow! That's interesting.

Ajitha : Yes, learning basics is simple. It's all up-to you how you take it up from there. All that matters is your grasping power and imagination!

Vindhya : What message would you like to convey to our readers?

Ajitha : Whether you are a professional or a home maker, try to learn some art or craft. They keep you occupied and also helps to bring out the inner YOU!
