06. Rose and Thorn - Sandhya
For the 1000th time Sujatha looked at her friend. Subha was still staring at the dark sky seen from the window.
Something is wrong thought Suji.
“Subha are you alright?” she asked with concern written all over her face.
“Mmm” mumbled Subha.
“Are you hiding something from me Subha?”
“hu-hu-mmmm” again Subha mumbled, just shaking her head.
“Hello! First turn and look at me”
Sujatha’s tone made Subha turn around. She smiled at her friend who was staring at her.
“Is that Baskar torturing too much?” asked Suji in a concerned voice.
Subha’s smile widened. She went and sat in her bed and kept a pillow in her lap to support her elbow and said,
“Yes Suji he is disturbing me a lot”
Sujatha also sat next to her.
“I know he will be the reason for your mood out. I am sorry Subha, I am the one to blame for your trouble”
“Cut it out Suji. Now tell me one thing. Roses are cute but can you admire their thorns?”
Suji was surprised to hear the question at that time. She was expecting a serious discussion with Subha.
Subha smiled at her friend.
“I am sorry Suji. I know I surprised you. But today I had so many unexpected things happening around me that I am almost going insane.”
“What type of things?”
“So many things gal… like Baskar apologizing to me.....”
“What???”
“I know it sounds almost impossible but that did happen”
“Oh! But why did he apologize?”
“For screaming at me!”
“What??? Then he should apologize to almost everyone he has met in his entire life”
“Ha ha ha! Very true Suji! I am so very used to his shouting’s and screaming’s that this apology came as a big surprise for me”
“Yes I can see that. But tell me what happened today”
Subha shared her little adventure at Baskar’s house with Sujatha.
“May be his father forced him to apologize........” said Suji.
“Yes I think so too. But from what we know about him, do you really think he is a person who can be forced to apologize and that too to me??”
“May be he is very embarrassed that you got to see his smiling photo”
“Ha ha ha, yes that is possible.”
“Men are weird creatures Subha. You never know….. Your friend is also an example for this”
Subha looked at Sujatha in surprise.
“Friend? Are you talking about Bharath?”
“Yes, who else? He is wasting all his time…”
“Bharath wasting time??? What are you talking about?”
“Subha you are poor in acting, so stop trying it. We both very well know what he is waiting for”
“Yes that’s true. And I should say I have been wrongly thinking that you are going away and away from him.”
Sujatha gave an angry stare at Subha.
“Now you stop acting like a kid Suji. You only started this topic! Why on earth should you talk about him now, until unless you have some interest in him?”
“This is ridiculous! Even you talked about Baskar, so, can I say you have interest in him?”
“Yes you can!”
“What? I never knew you are so stupid, Subha”
“Hey that’s very harsh. Why do you say that?”
“No sensible creature in this world will show any interest in that inhumane monster “
“Yes Suji you are correct. But then why is he like that? Why is he not like rest of us?”
“Because he doesn’t have a heart. He is made of stone or may be granite or marble!”
“Suji! Come on think. I told you I saw a photo in which he was smiling and looked just like all of us….. What made him change like this?”
“Subha! We can’t conclude based on a photo. We don’t even know anything about him other than his rudeness and mad behavior”
