As we all know that first impression is the best impression. So it is better to be dress up for an interview which will remain as a key to a successful job interview. The way you dress for an interview says how precise, neat and professional you are.

Be as clean as possible:

Always shower the day of your interview. Even if you are busy take time to wash your hair on that particular day. If your interview is by afternoon time try to have a shower close to that time too. So that your skin alone will not look clean you too will feel better because you will be feeling more refreshed.

Wash your hands right before the interview. It’s likely that the first thing you will do when you walk into the interview is shake hands. It is important that your hands are clean and smell nice.

Cut your nails regularly and it is better to clean your nails on the day of the interview and shape it properly. The interviewer for sure will look into your nails when you go for hand shake. Check under your fingernails to avoid dirt. Women should manicure their nails. They can have a light shade of pink but loud colors should be avoided.

Part of your good hygiene is smelling great when you enter your interview. Men should avoid after shave lotions. Women can wear a bit of perfume or scented lotion. Walk into the interview with fresh breath and avoid sucking on a mint and chewing a gum.

Pay attention to your hair:

Have a fresh haircut. Men should avoid spiking their hair or gelling it in a distracting manner. Women should avoid hair accessories.

Before your interview check your shoulders for dandruff especially if you wear dark color dress.

How to dress for a professional interview?

Example for men’s interview attire:

Suit (solid color)

Long sleeve shirt (white or color that co ordinates the suit)

Dark socks

Neat professional hairstyle

Example for women’s attire:

The suit skirt should be long enough

Dress for a professional environment:

For men:

  1. For men professional attire includes dark colored suit. Long sleeved shirt, formal shoes and a briefcase.
  2. If you are unsure about the dress code ask the person scheduling the interview.
  3. Remember to check how the people at the company dress up regularly. It is better to be overdressed than under dressed.
  4. Men should wear a tie which matches the suit.
  5. The dress should be fitted properly that is it should not be too tight or too loose.
  6. Men should have the right pair of pants. The pant should match the suit properly. Avoid wearing jeans and cargos.
  7. The belt should be too simple in design with a silver buckles which should not be bigger in size.
  8. Socks color should be selected according to your pant color.
  9. If you are more confused in the selection of dress better go for dark pant with light color shirt or light pant with dark color shirt.
  10. Wear perfect pair of shoes that are clean and shiny and perfectly new. Make sure your shoes match the rest of your outfit. Leather shoes are better.

For women:

  1. For women attire includes a suit, suit with a skirt and conservative shoes.
  2. Wear nice eye make up, dark eyeliner and black mascara.
  3. Avoid wearing too much make up. Avoid hot pink lipsticks. Better to have a mild lip gloss.
  4. Wear a perfect top which covers your body completely.
  5. Wear a pair of one solid color shoes. Avoid showing your toes. Have reasonably high heels but make sure that the heels won’t make noise when you walk.

Few tips to attend an interview:

  1. Dress code is the most important one for an interview. Dress up according to your company profile and give a pleasant look for the interviewer.
  2. Be cool and relax. Avoid your tension. If you feel tensed your palm may become wet which will show your fear towards the interview when you shake hands with your higher officials.
  3. Be comfortable and don’t move tap your legs and cross your arms whenever you are waiting for your interview session.
  4. Always have a smile in your lips which shows you pleasant.
  5. If you are supposed to wait for a long time don’t show any kind of facial expressions. Making you to wait for a long time may help your interview to check your patience. This will be a kind of stress interview.
  6. When you are asked to enter the interview hall don’t go fast and at the same time don’t move slowly. Have a normal walk and make sure that your shoes will not make any noise when you walk.
  7. You are supposed to take your seat if your interview asked you to sit. If not just stand in the place just opposite to them.
  8. If you are supposed to shake your hands just have a gentle shake and leave the hand. Don’t make your hands to shiver.
  9. Get ready with your resume and your certificates in a correct order.
  10. Don’t place your hands on the table. Just keep it in your thighs and don’t tap your legs to avoid your fear.
