Healthy Recipes - Contest Entry 05 - Horse gram (Kollu) Rasam - Renjitham

Ingredients:

Horse gram (kollu) - 2 spoon

pepper - 2 spoon

Cumin seed (Jeeragam) - 1 spoon

Ginger - small piece

Garlic - 7 cloves of garlic

Tomato - 1

oil, curry leaves, mustard seeds - For saute'ing

Tamarind - Marble size

Turmeric powder - small pinch

Salt - To taste

Corriander leaves - Little

 

Kollu 

Preparation

1. Heat a pan and slightly fry Horse gram.

2. Remove it from the furnace and allow it to cool down.

3. Pulse the fried horse gram once or twice and break it into small chunks. keep it asaid.

4. Now blend Pepper, Cumin seeds, ginger and cloves of garlic into a fine paste using mixie / blender.

5. Heat oil in a pan and let mustard seeds and curry leaves splutter.

6. Add cut tomato pieces and let it cook.

7. Add the blended paste from step 4 and mix well.

8. After few minues add Horse gram chunks. Mix well and let it cook for few minutes.

9. Now add Tamarind water and salt to the mixture.

10. Add turmeric powder and asafoetida powder.

11. Let the rasam cook and remove it from the furnace before it starts boiling.

12. Garnish with corriander leaves.

Benefits

Weight reduction - Horse gram helps to reduce cholesterol and hence is a very good solution for losing few Kilos!

Other benefits - Horse gram is also considered as a good remedy for difficult breathing, cough, gastric problems, ulcers, worm infections and excessive perspiration.
