Movie review - 01 - Legally Blonde

After lots of if's and but's I decided to start this series with Reese Witherspoon's 2001 comedy film Legally Blonde.

Category - Comedy, Motivating
US Rating - PG 13
Who will like this movie? - Women

Why you should watch it?

Though sort of a chick-flick, in the movie, Elle wages battle of her life, for her love, for herself and also for all the blondes who suffer endless indignities everyday.

We have so many in-sensitive people around. They never bother about hurting others feelings by teasing  and / or passing comments. But that's just a small part of life. If you have determination and motivational factor, then no one can stop you!

Watch this movie for the motivational factor with a blend of comedy.

Note: Movie might not suit younger children!

The story:

Elle Woods is madly in love with her friend Warner. As she eagerly awaits for Warner to propose to her, Warner instead breaks up saying that he needs someone who is "serious". Elle is heartbroken but decides to win her love back by getting into Harvard, the Law School that Warner is planning to attend.

She works hard and takes the Law school admission test and scores good marks. Though the Harvard board of admissions is dazed by her admission and funny video essay, they decide to give her admission.

Law college life doesn't look like cat walk for Elle... Her classmates reject her because of her 'fashionable' looks and immature behavior. Elle tries to adjust herself as she is determined to win Warner who is also her classmate now.

But her wish is short lived as she comes to know that Warner is now engaged to Vivienne, who is also their classmate. Though disappointed Elle is not crest fallen. She believes she can still get Warner back...

During a party, Elle has a discussion with Warner and finally realizes he will never respect her.

But this determines her to succeed on her own. So Elle studies hard and impresses her professors and classmates in many occasions and that also wins her an internship with Professor Callahan along with three of her classmates including Warner and Vivienne.

They all work with Callahan and Emmett an associate, to defend Brooke Taylor, a famous fitness instructor accused of murdering her much older billionaire husband, Hayworth. Brooke was once Elle's fitness instructor and Elle still adores her. Elle believes Brooke is innocent, but Brooke's stepdaughter, Chutney, and the household cabana boy say she is guilty, and that they saw Brooke standing over Hayworth's dead body, covered in his blood, while Brooke testifies that she loved her husband and only found him after he had been shot to death.

As they continue to work on the case, Elle and Vivienne become friends. Elle also helps to find out some of the open ends in the prosecution's claims.

Impressed by her performance, Callahan discusses Elle's future with her and then makes sexual advances on her, which Elle immediately rejects. But Vivienne overhears part of the conversation and thinks that Elle got her internship by using her sexuality. She confronts Elle and accuses her of cheating.

Elle decides that it's time for her to quit the law school as people only see her as fashionable doll!

But Elle's another professor Stromwell helps Elle to regain her spirits. Motivated Elle decides to prove a point.

Brooke decides to dismiss Callahan and hire Elle as her new attorney with Emmett supervising her.

Though Elle starts her arguments little shakily, she finds out the real killer, who is none other than Brooke's step daughter Chutney.

Elle is overjoyed and is appreciated by everyone.

Now Warner tries to reconcile with her but she rejects saying that she needs a boyfriend who is less of a "bonehead" in her new career.

At the end of the movie we are shown the graduation... Elle has graduated with high honors and she has been also selected the 'class-elected' speaker of the ceremony. Elle and Vivienne are now best friends and Vivienne has called off her engagement with Warner.

So Warner graduates without honors, no girlfriend, and no job offers... While Elle who was teased by everyone proves that she could do wonders!
