Why do we offer food to the Lord before eating it?
Some of us offer food to god and later eat considering it as ‘prasadham’, a gift from god. Even while performing daily worship we offer food as ‘naivedhyam’ to god.
But why do we offer food to the Lord before eating it?
God is powerful and knows everything! Whatever we do is based on his strength and knowledge. So whatever we receive in this life for our actions is actually what we receive from him (god). We acknowledge this by offering food to god.
We offer it humbly believing ‘I offer what is yours to you!’ Now the food that is graced by god’s divine touch is like a gift to us.
If we believe this in our heart, our attitude towards food and the eating habits changes.
Whatever food we offer will be pure and best. We also start sharing food with others before eating it. We don’t whine, demand, complain or criticize the food we get! We accept and eat it cheerfully.
