Lakshmi - Indrum Naalaiyum
Anu's mother is a cook but still she works hard to give education to her daughter. Unfortunately, even before Anu could complete her graduation, her mother dies of natural causes... Sundaramurthy one of her mom's employer offers to help the now orphaned Anu. In Sundaramurthy's house, Anu meets Harinath. He proposes his love to her and Anu is more than happy to accept his proposal.
But soon she learns that Harinath is a bad man who sells women for prostitution. Though scared, Anu acts wisely and contacts a women welfare officer to help her. The lady sends her to Maithreyi, a social worker's home.
Anu starts working as a all-in-all companion for Maithreyi. Mithran is Maithreyi's nephew and he likes Anu just after their first meeting. He shares his heart with his aunt. Maithreyi persuades Anu to marry Mithran as she believes Anu needs safety in this world... Anu accepts and marries Mithran.
Though she marries Mithran due to his aunt's persuasion, soon she understands his goodness and starts loving him... But she doesn't share her past love affair with her husband...
Now it's three plus years since their marriage and they are a happily married couple... Anu learns that she is pregnant and she yearns to share the happy news with her husband. But before she could tell Mithran the happy news, he informs her about his official trip. Disappointed, Anu decides to keep her happy news as a secret till Mithran returns from his trip.
Unfortunately while shopping for a book, Anu again meets Harinath. But she ignores him... Harinath is not in a mood to let her go. He finds her address and blackmails her with the old love letters that Anu wrote to him.
She doesn't feel like obliging to the blackmail but she knows that Harinath will not let her go. She believes that he will surely share those letters with her husband. Since Mithran doesn't know anything about Harinath, she assumes that this news will surely disappoint and break her husband's love for her. So, she decides to leave her home without informing her husband...
So what happened to Anu? Did Harinath succeed in his blackmail? Read the story to know about it...
This is a nice family novel with a good theme. The story is suitable for all reading enthusiasts irrespective of their age.
In the climax Lakshmi quotes from Omar Khayyam "Unborn tomorrow and dead yesterday, why fret about them if today be sweet..." and summarizes the story... She also explains the change in mentality of the society with respect to female chastity via examples...
A real good read and highly recommended.
