Friends I would like to share with you all, some of the mysterious facts about our Universe which amazed me.
Our Galaxy and It’s Twin:
We all know that our galaxy is named Milky Way, to which our solar system is a part.
Have you ever wondered why our galaxy is named so?
Before the invention of the telescope, our ancestors could not see the stars of our galaxy clearly; instead they could see only a blurred beam of white light.
The ancient Greeks called the white beam of light ‘river of milk’. Through that it got the present name Milky Way.
After the invention of the telescope, astronomers found out that our Milky Way has a twin. The twin galaxy was named Andromeda.
The mysterious part of Andromeda is that it has two centers instead of having one. Scientists believe that the second center is due to the consumption of another galaxy by Andromeda. The second center might be the remains of the consumed galaxy.
Interestingly the Andromeda is traveling towards our Milky Way at the speed of 300 Kms/second. So astronomers predict that Andromeda may consume our Milky Way in the future.
