In pursue of the true identity!

Kerala Police formed three 10-member teams and dispatched them to Puttaparthi, where they thought he was officially reborn as Raghav Rajan, his home state of Odisha, and Rajasthan, where the rape took place.

Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh

As per records, Rajan is the son of SV Rama Rao, an agriculturist who stays at A- 17 Sai Sree Enclave in Puttaparthi. But police were not able to find out this SV Rama Rao.

In Puttaparthi, Rajan worked as teacher in Deena Janodharana School for a few months in 2007. Later in the same year, he worked as a lecturer in Sree Vidya College, but lost his job after a prolonged absence.

MohantyIn 2009, he left for Kerala to pursue his MBA.

Kannur, Kerala

In Kannur, Rajan pursued MBA degree (2009-11) from Chinmaya Institute of Technology (CIT).

During police investigation, all his classmates had only good things to say about the boy who they thought hailed from Andhra Pradesh.

“Rajan was a brilliant orator and a serious student,” recalls Sarath, a batch mate.

“He never mingled with us or talked about his family. He had taken a single room at the hostel and was the top student of our batch. He was gentle to everyone at the campus.”

“He always told us to behave properly and never showed any interest in merrymaking inside the campus. He also kept a safe distance from girls” remembers another batch mate

After passing out from CIT, Rajan worked at the e-learning department of Amrita Engineering College in Kollam, Kerala, from 18 October 2011 to 13 June 2012.

After that, Rajan got a job as a probationary officer at SBT’s Kannur branch.

Investigation

Police tried hard to prove that the Rajan’s documents are fake. So they continued their investigation in Puttaparthi.

In Puttaparthi, as per records, Mohanty lived in an apartment owned by Dr Christayya at Sai Sree Enclave, Chitravathi Road. Dr Christayya told the police that he was introduced to Mohanty by AC Rama Rao, a retired teacher.

Rama Rao, in turn, informed the police that a “reputed person” who has strong influence in the Satya Sai management, introduced Mohanty as Raghav Rajan to him.

Police are convinced that Mohanty had a mentor in Puttaparthi who has tremendous clout over the local administration. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to procure all these fake documents to cover up his criminal past.

But now their first job is to prove Rajan’s true identity.

So they looked to the records of Bitti Mohanty. And they hit on target there!

Rajasthan police team had filed finger prints of Mohanty when he was took into custody in 2006. Kerala police used the prints to compare the finger prints of Rajan to CONFIRM that he is indeed Bitti Mohanty.

Police also decided to go ahead and confirm his identity by conducting DNA tests.

On 16th March 2013, Mohanty’s father confirmed Raghav Rajan as Bitti Mohanty after looking at his photos.

So finally it’s clear that Raghav Rajan is Bitti Mohanty!

How easy is it to create a fake identity?

Bitti Mohanty has maintained that his parents doesn’t have any knowledge or involvement in this creation of ‘fake’ identity. But police are not really convinced.

A per Mohanty’s neighbors, when he stayed at Puttaparthi, his uncle and aunt used to visit him now and then.

It’s still not clear who that uncle and aunt are!

Can that be his parents posing as relatives? We don’t know!

The curious link – Anonymous letter

Bitti Mohanty has been able to live with a new identity with government issued documents and a job in Public sector bank!

If not for the anonymous letter, he might have remained so for many more years.

So who really wrote that letter?

There are multiple versions going afloat. But it all leads to one road, LOVE!

In the bank where Mohanty worked, his personality attracted a woman colleague. It’s said that she proposed to him and Mohanty shared his hidden past to her. She first thought he was joking and googled to get more information out of curiosity. She was stunned to find that it was true and hence tipped the officials via the anonymous letter.

Another version of this story goes like this…

Mohanty’s co-worker shared her affection towards him to her family. Her brother was not very happy about the relationship.

On the same time due to the Nirbhaya case, the news channels were digging deep into old open rape cases and Bitti Mohanty’s case was one of them.

The TV cahnnel also aired his photo and gave details about his disappearance.

This raised suspicions to the doting brother and he wrote the anonymous letter to the bank officials.

Either way, the letters helped to nab Mohanty!
