தாயாரும், தமையனும், தங்கையும் ஏதோ கூடிப் பேசுவதைக் கவனித்துவிட்டு அருகில் வந்து நின்று, "என்ன அது பிரமாதமான ரகசியம்? கூடிப் பேசுகிறீர்களே?" என்று கேட்டாள்.
சந்துரு அவளுக்குப் பதில் கூறாமல் மேஜைமீது கிடந்த அழைப்பிதழை எடுத்து அவளிடம் கொடுத்தான்.
சாவித்திரியின் முகம் க்ஷண காலத்தில் வெளுத்து வாடியது. பிறகு சரேலென்று 'ஜிவு ஜிவு' வென்று சிவந்தது. ஆத்திரத்துடன் கடிதத்தை எடுத்துச் சுக்கு நூறாகக் கிழித்துப்போட்டு, “பூ! இவ்வளவுதானா? கச்சேரி செய்ய வேண்டியது ஒன்று தான் பாக்கியாக இருந்தது. அதுவும் ஆரம்பமாகி விட்டதாக்கும்!" என்று அதைத் தூள் தூளாகக் கிழித்து எறிந்தாள் எரிச்சலுடன்.
அழகிய எழுத்துக்களில் 'ஸ்ரீமதி ஸரஸ்வதி' என்று எழுதி இருந்த வார்த்தைகள் துண்டு துண்டாகச் சிதறிக் கூடத்தில் இறைந்து கிடப்பதைப் பார்க்க மனம் சகிக்காமல் சந்துரு சாவித்திரியைக் கோபத்துடன் விழித்துப் பார்த்து விட்டு அங்கிருந்து வெளியே சென்றான்.
