07. Rose and Thorn - Sandhya
Story so far…
Subha and Suji aka Sujatha are best friends.
They both hail from a village and are currently staying at Chennai with loads of dreams for their future.
Sujatha a CA aspirant is currently working for an orphanage. The orphanage owes a huge amount of money to Baskar a heartless business man.
Subha an MBA aspirant herself, offers to help Sujatha to negotiate a deal with Baskar.
Baskar who’s also a rude boss, almost blackmails Subha to work for him free in return to offering one year time for the orphanage to return the money.
Though reluctant, Subha accepts the deal to help her friend.
Working under Baskar makes life very difficult for Subha until she accidentally meets his parents and sister. And curiously Baskar apologizes to Subha for behaving rude in front of his father.
This triggers Subha to start investigating on Baskar’s odd behavior.

When Subha entered Baskar’s office, her mind was unusually calm.
She wasn’t cribbing anymore. But on the contrary, she was filled with curiosity. She really wanted to know about Baskar, his family and his past.
Sarathy explained her tasks for the day and she started with it right away!
For the next couple of hours her hands and eyes took care of the tasks while her mind was busy thinking of a plan to find out Baskar’s past.
She decided to stay cool against his rudeness and not to show any reaction for his anger.
Subha has always been like this. Even during schooldays she was popular for asking ‘why’ questions to her teachers!
But, since her college life, she has managed to hide her curiosity to maintain a professional impression and also to keep herself focused on her dreams.
But here Baskar has re-kindled her curiosity. His husky sorry has brought out her real flare from hiding.
Once she was done with her papers, she took them to Baskar’s room.
She is going to meet him for the first time after his soft apology.
Subha entered the room and gave a probing look at Baskar. But he didn’t look at her. As usual, he was busy looking into some paper. He just raised his hand and asked,
“Is that proposal ready?”
Subha said, “Yes” and handed over the papers to him.
Baskar spent few more seconds in his paper and then shifted his attention to the paper that Subha handed over to him.
In a few seconds he raised his head and scowled,
“What do you call this? There are so many spelling mistakes. Even a high school student can do a better job than you. You are so stupid!”
It took almost a minute for Subha to realize what he said!
Since her mind was preoccupied with a very different question, she was shocked for a second by his rudeness.
But soon she shrugged it off, remembering her plan!
She looked at him straight and said,
“If I am so stupid, why can’t you let me go sir? You can always find a better person for your job!”
Her voice had a teasing tone and she made no attempt to hide the sarcasm too!
Baskar gave a sharp gaze at her!
But Subha was all prepared for that. She didn’t show any disapproval for his contempt look. She just stood there and looked back at him as if nothing had happened.
Baskar face turned deep red in anger.
“You are not behaving as per my expectations. You might well face consequences for this”
He almost barked at her.
Subha shrugged her shoulder to show that his words had no impact on her!
“I am serious! I can change the contract and extend it for two years!” he frowned.
“Sure, you can sir!” said Subha in a very calm and composed tone!
Baskar was not able to hide his astonishment!
A wave of thrill swept through Subha.
But even before she could start enjoying it,
“Get out of my room and correct these mistakes” scowled Baskar.
Subha got back the paper and left the room without much ado, but she was filled with delight!
It has been a while since she had some amusement in her life. Her curiosity to find Baskar’s past has transformed her dislike for him to show-me-what-you-can mindset.
So, for the first time she came out of Baskar’s room without disgust!
She sat in her chair and started making corrections that Baskar had marked in the paper.
Again her mind started working on its new mission!
“Wow Subha! You astonished Baskar today. That’s a good sign. Keep it up. And, meanwhile I will find you a way to snoop around to find about his past”
Subha accepted her mind’s pat with a smile!
Baskar, who came out of his room in a hurry as usual to say something to Subha was caught unexpected by her sweet smile!
