டீ ஷர்ட் என்று இன்று அழைக்கப் படுவது 1900க்களின் தொடக்கத்தில் ‘திருமணம் ஆகாத ஆண்களின் உள் சட்டை’ என்ற அடைப்பெயருடன் அறிமுகப் படுத்தப் பட்டது.

இந்த ‘திருமணம் ஆகாத ஆண்களின் உள் சட்டை’ சுமார் 1920 வரை "டி-ஷர்ட்டாக" உருவாகவில்லை.

ஆக்ஸ்போர்டு ஆங்கில அகராதியின் கூற்றுப்படி, எஃப். ஸ்காட் ஃபிட்ஸ்ஜெரால்ட் இந்த ஆடையை "டி-ஷர்ட்" என்று முதன்முதலில் குறிப்பிடுகிறார்.

அவரது புகழ்பெற்ற நாவலான திஸ் சைட் ஆஃப் பாரடைஸில், ஒரு கதாபாத்திரம் தன்னுடன் போர்டிங் ஸ்கூலுக்கு கொண்டு வரும் பொருட்களின் பட்டியலில் ஒரு சட்டையும் அடங்கும். ஆசிரியர் அந்த ஆடையை "டி-ஷர்ட்" என்று குறிப்பிட்டார். இதற்கு முக்கிய காரணம் அதன் வடிவம்.

ஆமாம், டி-ஷர்ட்டுக்கு அதன் வடிவத்திலிருந்து தான் இந்த பெயர் வந்தது.

அந்த சட்டையின் கழுத்தில் இருந்து இடுப்பு வரை தட்டையாக்கி, கைகளை பக்கமாக வெளியே இழுத்தால், அது ஆங்கில எழுத்து T என்ற எழுத்தை உருவாக்குகிறது.

அதனால் டீ-ஷர்ட் ஆனது!!!

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, F. Scott Fitzgerald is credited as being the first to refer to the garment as a "t-shirt."

In his famous novel This Side of Paradise, Fitzgerald includes a t-shirt in the list of supplies a character brings with him to boarding school.

The author referred to the garment as a "t-shirt" presumably because of its shape.

Yes, the T-shirt got its name from its shape.

If you flatten the shirt out from neck to waist and pull the arms out to the side, it forms the letter T.
