Poem - Village Teacher - Ram Ramakrishnan [RaVai]
Happy was he, calm and contented
With desires few and wants limited
The little home and few sacred books
Were all his precious worldly possessions
He was a teacher kind and gentle
A symbol of wisdom and knowledge
With patience, love and tender care
He made his wards smart and clever
Like his home kept clean and bright
He filled young hearts with noble thoughts
With his simple living and high thinking
He set an example for upright living
Content to breathe his village air
And dedicated to make all hearts pure
The children with their smile and laughter
Gave him thrill happiness and cheer
A prince among men, though poor,
Fame and honour came from far and near
His little village he considered his family
Where he lived in peace and tranquility
A genius intelligent and widely read
Lucrative offers came from all over the world
But for him his village was like gold
Which he adored, cherished and loved!
