திட்டமிட்டிருந்ததுப் போலவே அன்று மாலை விடுதிக்கு திரும்பினாள் பாரதி. சில நிமிடங்கள் ஓய்வெடுத்து விட்டு, அடுத்த வாரம் நடத்த வேண்டிய பாடங்களை நோட்டமிட்டாள். மறு நாள் நடத்த வேண்டிய பாடங்களுக்கு தேவையான நோட்ஸ் எடுத்து வைத்தாள். தொடர்ந்து, அடுத்த வாரம் கல்லூரிக்கு அணித்து செல்ல சேலைகளை தேர்ந்தெடுத்து எடுத்து தனியே வைத்தாள். எல்லா வேலைகளும் முடிய, கமலாவும், பவித்ராவும் அன்புடன் கொடுத்தனுப்பி இருந்த உணவை குளிர் சாதன பெட்டியில் இருந்து எடுத்து, விடுதி சமையலறையில் இருந்த மைக்ரோவேவ் அவனில் சூடு செய்து உண்டாள். எல்லா வேலையும் முடிந்து விடவும், தூங்குவதற்கு முன் சிறிது நேரம் புத்தகம் படிப்பது என்று முடிவு செய்து, முன்பு பாதி படித்து வைத்திருந்த ஒரு நாவலை எடுத்து படிக்கத் துவங்கினாள். ஏனோ பாரதியின் மனம் கதையில் ஒட்டவில்லை...

"எனக்கு ரொம்பவே ஆச்சர்யமாக இருந்தது பாரதி... அந்த ஒரு பெரிய குழப்பமான சூழ்நிலையை நீ கையாண்ட விதம் அருமை..."

சில நாட்களுக்கு முன் விவேக் சொன்னது சம்மந்தமே இல்லாது அவளின் காதில் ஒலித்தது... குழப்பமான சூழ்நிலையா... அந்த சில நாட்களை நினைத்துப் பார்க்கவே இப்போதும் பாரதிக்குப் பிடிக்கவில்லை... எத்தனை கிண்டலான, குத்தலான பேச்சுக்கள்... பரிதாப பார்வைகள்... அத்தனையும் கடந்து வர அவள் பட்டப் பாடுகள் அவளுக்குத் தானே தெரியும்... ஒருவர் வருத்தத்தில் இருக்கும் போது, அதே நபரை மேலும் துன்ப படுத்த தான் இந்த உலகில் எத்தனை பேர்...

"....என்னை கல்யாணம் செஞ்சுப்பீங்களா?"

விவேக் கேட்டதை மீண்டும் நினைத்துப் பார்த்தாள். அவனிடம் சரி என ஒப்புக் கொண்டிருந்தால் இந்நேரம் திருமணமே நடந்து முடிந்திருக்கும்...
