she lifted her head from the book and asked him ‘where did you go last two days?’ he said ‘why what’s the matter? I had plenty of work’ and then he said ‘ I want to introduce…..’ and he looked behind him she wasn’t there and he went back near the door and caught her hand and pulled her towards him and brought her inside near his mom and said ‘ can you guess who this is? He asked his mom and his mom replied ‘she is your new wife? Is this the important work you had last two days?’ she asked him in return and did not turn her face to Barathi and did not speak or question her anything
Barathi felt as an insult and tightened her mouth. Barath turned towards her and saw face was reddened in anger and the insult by his mom.
He asked his mom ‘yes, she is your new daughter-in-law and you seem not greet her?’
‘well, she is your wife, I ‘ve already understood that’
‘If she is my wife, is she not your daughter-in-law mom?’
Did you ever tell me that you are going to marry her before you married her? You neither took permission nor gave any information before you married her. You did not think that your mother is alive and you should ask her or tell her. So why should I consider her my daughter-in-law?
Barath face was very stiff in anger and did not speak to his mother and pulled Barathi from there and came to his room. Both of them did not speak anything and he went away leaving Barathi in the house.
Barathi was inside their room and found books from the book shelf and was reading and worrying about Barath, since he has not returned home from morning.
He did not return home that night and she was all alone thinking about him and about her also. The previous afternoon the servant of the house brought food for her, she refused saying that she was not hungry, the night also the food was refused by her. The next day morning she woke up and did not see Barath’s return and she was worried and was thinking, why did he not worry about her?
She heard someone coming from the stairs and she was sure it is not him then who else?
She realized that somebody is at the door,She turned her face to see who it was? She saw a young girl was at the door, she would be about twenty two years old
She came inside and sat on a chair in the room and asked Barathi, ‘who are you?
Barathi was tensed when she saw this girl thinking ‘who this girl would be?’ but when she rised the question she was unable to answer her, she was also angry on Barath.
She returned the same question to the new girl who showed up.
She said ‘this is my house, how dare you return my question to me’ she spoke with an angered voice with rudeness
Barathi was shivering with the new face and her husband is not here to support her and she was really angry on him now.
Barathi said ‘this is my house, tell me who you are and you will get the real answer from me’
The new girl laughed louder and said’ Barath is going to marry me, my aunt and uncle had already decided about it. This is my house’
Barathi said ‘I am wife of Barath already, you can see the yellow thread on my neck, you don’t have any illusion of Barath to be your husband anymore and now, you leave our room’ Barathi said it furiously.
‘This is my house and if someone had to leave this house it’s you to leave.’ She heard the voice at the door and she turned her face and saw her mother-in-law was standing there and said that staring at her as she sees her as an enemy.
Barathi’s entire body was shivering at her presence and what she said. She couldn’t believe on what she said.
She tried to tell her that she is her son’s wife. She refused that relationship and said that no one other than my husband’s niece can be my daughter-in-law and she said that you married my son for his money.
Barath’s mother said ‘ I already called for the cab and it’s waiting for you at the gate and you can leave now’
She said ‘ I can’t leave now until I see Barath and I will tell him and leave from here’
Barath’s mother said’ you need not wait for him, he will not be back for a week and I will let him know that you have gone’ when she turned her face to the new girl, her face was smiling in the victory.
She did not have a choice but to leave. She took her bag and left from there. When she went through the hall, the servant was asking her for her bag, but she refused and took it herself. She was very tired and week, since she did not have food since she arrived here in their house.
When she got in the car, the tears running through her eyes and there is no sign of Barath. She was thinking what kind of an irresponsible man he is, leaving newly wedded wife alone in the house like an orphan.
She started to think ‘what next?’.
