08. Rose and Thorn - Sandhya
He kept staring at her unconsciously.
Subha’s intuition made her turn and was totally surprised to see Baskar staring at her.
It was not the usual stare…
It’s something else…
Something more… very intense….
A different wave of sweetness swept over her…
Involuntarily, color rose in her cheeks!
But, being an educated girl from a good family, she managed to control her emotions and asked,
“You wanted to ask me something sir?”
That question helped Baskar to come out of his spell,
“Um… yeah… no…” he stammered
That unusual stammer made Sarathy also to turn around.
But Sarathy’s action helped Baskar to regain his senses!
“Sarathy, what happened to that KRJ file? I asked you to get it ready today”
“It is ready! I have kept it in your desk” stuttered Sarathy.
“Then why can’t you just keep a note there? Don’t repeat this again!” roared Baskar and disappeared into his room.
“What’s wrong with him? Even if you finish the work on time and keep it in his desk, he shouts at you! I think he has some sort of psychological problem” mumbled Sarathy
Subha could hear his words, but she decided to keep mum!
She was still under the influence of the sudden sweetness that swept through her a while back…
Why was he staring at me like that?
Why did I feel indifferent about it?
She tried hard to shrug off the questions… But they kept lingering into her mind all the time.
When the clock stuck 9, she hurried her way outside as if to escape from her mind’s probing questions.
As she came out, she was surprised to see Barth waiting for her in his car.
“Barath! What a surprise” she screamed out of joy.
“Any time my friend!” replied Barath.
She waved at him and tried to switch on her scooty.
“This is office! Not a third rate meeting spot for lovers” pierced a harsh voice in the darkness.
She could just see the silhouette of the person.
But, even though she couldn’t see him, she knew it was Baskar.
Still anger rose within her! How dare he say that?
“Sir...” she started, only to be stopped by his rough voice.
“I said get out of my office! You can have your fabulous rendezvous anywhere you want but not here”
She wanted to scream back at him. But something stopped her.
She started her scooty and left the place immediately at a high speed.
Barath’s car followed her.
Baskar came out of the darkness and kept looking at the distant Scooty!
“How dare he say that to me?” said Subha still fuming!
Barath who was sitting in front of her in the coffee shop was laughing!
“Come on Subha! You know about him! Just forget him and have some life…”
“I wish I can do that Barath… You know what… sometimes I wish I was a guy and be as forgetful as you guys are…”
“That’s not fair Subha! You can’t just generalize it like that. I can prove you wrong”
“You think so?”
“Yes, ask me anything about Suja and I will answer you”
“God! I don’t want to hear your romantic babbles again…”
“Subha! You are my only chance! You are our only common friend! Don’t you want your friend to have a happy life?”
“Yes Barath! But happiness comes only when both husband and wife love each other! You can’t force your love on anyone! Suja is an independent human. She has her own feelings and wishes”
“Huh!!!!!!”
“Now, don’t be disappointed, Barath. You have to be practical. Can you wait for her forever? Sit, think about it, and talk to Suja. And still if she is not responding, just move on! You have to go ahead with your life,4 right?”
“I wish it is as easy as that”
“Hello Subha”
A familiar voice made her turn back.
Murthy was standing there with his wife and daughter.
“Hello! What a surprise!” said Subha
“Are we disturbing you both?”
“Oh no not at all! This is Barath, he is my good friend. And Barath, this is my boss’s family”
“Boss??” asked Barath feverishly.
“Yes Barath… My boss, you know…” said Subha with a wink.
“Oh wonderful! Nice meeting you all”
“It’s our pleasure young man… So, can we also join you both?” asked Murthy.
“Dad??? Why join them?” screamed Bavi
Barath looked at her curiously.
