முந்தைய காலங்களில் எதிரியை கொள்வதற்கு விஷம் கலந்த திரவத்தை கொடுப்பது சாதாரணமான ஒன்று.
அதனால், விருந்து நடக்கும் போது, தன் பானம் பாதுகாப்பானது என்று விருந்தினருக்கு நிரூபிக்க, விருந்தை அளிப்பவர் அந்த பானத்தை மற்றவர் முன் தன் டம்ப்ளரில் ஊற்றுவது வழக்கமாக இருந்தது.
பின் அனைவரும் ஒரே நேரத்தில் அதைக் குடிப்பார்கள்.
விருந்திற்கு வந்திருப்பவர் விருந்து அளிப்பவரை நம்பினால், தன் டம்ப்ளரை மற்றவரின் டம்பளருடன் இடித்து ஓசை எழுப்பி அதை வெளிக் காட்டுவார்.
இதே பழக்கம் இன்றும் தொடர்கிறது!!!!
